Penelope (Penny) O'Riordan
Age: Don't ask
Occupation: Receptionist
Penny is a rare thing indeed: a fairy born by natural reproduction (most fairies come into existence due to whatever odd circumstances create immortal energy beings). In order for this to occur, her mother (a normal fairy) had to give up her immortality, and her father had to give up his mortality. If this is confusing, don't worry, it will probably be explained later in the series. Or not.

Scot Davis
Age: 32
Occupation: AP History / Social Studies Teacher
Scot moved in with Penny after a night of drunken carousing. He has no idea (at this writing) that she is, in fact, one of the Fae. And the Sherwood Schwartz-style hilarity ensues.

Steve Carossi
Age: 41
Occupation: Vice-Principal at Caspar Weinberger High School
Steve became a teacher through alternative certification when he discovered commune-dwelling glassblowers don't get the chicks in droves. Also the commune was sold off to a minimall company that tore the original building down and built an identical replica. He later acquired his masters and doctoral degrees in an effort to gain a living wage. Until recently he and Scot shared an apartment.

Occupation(s): Substitute Teachers and Witnesses for the Lord

Dead Bill
Age: 20-something
Occupation: ghost
Dead Bill is the previous owner of Penny's house. He died. Tragically. He tragically ignored the warnings and common sense and tried to use his blow-dryer in the shower. He didn't even get his hair dry. Enh. He's probably better off out of the gene pool.

Conal O'Ainle (aka Michael O'Riordan et al)
Age: Just shy of 1000
Occupation: Problem Solver
In about 1182, Conal O'Ainle was an archer in service to the King of Connaught (and erstwhile High King of Ireland). He was rescued from a disastrous rout against the Normans by Petaloak Laughingbird, a young (for her kind) and mercurial (for our kind) fairy. Through circumstances that have never been fully explained, they became married and the parents of a daughter, Penelope.

Age: Still young for a fairy
Occupation: none
Having rescued Irish soldier Conal O'Ainle, Petaloak decided to use him for a trick she was pretty sure no other fairy had ever pulled off. She had a baby. This, of course meant that she had to sacrifice much of her immortality and could now be killed, but it also freed her from many of the other restraints that bind the Fae and allowed her to walk the waking world. Since then she discovered alcohol, which she likes a lot.

Schmookie
Age: 350 years or a couple months, depending on how you look at it.
Occupation: none
Schmookie was given to Penny as a gift from the Grandfather, an ancient Fae being who more or less rules the Fae world when it occurs to him to do so. She imprinted on Scot when she hatched and is thoroughly convinced he is her mother.

Diana Fullerman
Age: 4500-ish
Occupation: Sports Agent
The Greek Goddes of the Moon, the Hunt, and Maidenhood (among others), Diana is one of a small population of immortals living among normal people. Unlike many of the old gods, however, she is still afforded a certain amount of worship (and therefore power). She met Penny while Penny was dating her twin brother, who currently works as a Heating and A/C repairman, and the two have been best friends, since.
